ONEONTA — Donald R. Knowles, 77, of Oneonta, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta.
Donald was born Aug. 8, 1921, in Oneonta, the son of Stanley G. and Anna (Chase)
Knowles.
He was married to Evelyn Cross on Nov. 25, 1942, in Oneonta.
He worked for The Daily Star for 35 years. He was a member of the Main Street
Baptist Church. He had been corporate clerk for the trustees of the church for
almost 25 years.
He had many varied interests, including gardening, antiquing, refinishing of
antiques, and hooking rugs. He liked to read and loved music.
Donald is survived by his wife of 56 years of Oneonta; his daughter, Carolyn Knowles
of Chatham; his sister, Marion Holmes of Morris; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at 1:30 p.m. at the
Bookhout Funeral Home in Oneonta. Officiating will be the Rev. Gary Bonebrake,
pastor of Main Street Baptist Church. Our friend and chaplain at Fox Hospital,
Judy Thistle, will share a few thoughts. There will be no calling hours.
Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery in the spring.
Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Catskill Area
Hospice, Oneonta.
