Last Will and Testament of Joshua Knowles

Warren Co., Kentucky  -  Will Book D (1827 - 1844)

In the name of God amen.  I Joshua Knowles of Warren County and State of Kentucky being of sound mind but in bad health and as every man is born to die I make this my last will and testament revoking all others.

First I desire that I should be decently buried.  Item I give to my beloved wife Gemima Knowles the fifty acres of land whereon I now live during her natural life and at her death it is my will and desire that my son Mathew Knowles shall have it and for which said Mathew Knowles shall furnish fire wood going to the mill when ever his mother shall be in want of such things.  Item  I also give to my wife her choice of a milk cow.   It further is my wish and desire that my daughter Polly Stephens shall continue to live with her mother until her death to be provided for during the life of her mother with wood and meat [meal?].  Item I give unto my son John Knowles of Franklin County Virginia one note of sixty-three dollars which said note was --- ted to me --- dated the 5th day of December 1812 [?].   This note I wish to be given up to said son John after my death or destroyed in presence of witnesses.   Item It is my wish and desire that in one month after my death that all the remaining part of my property accept what is in my coach [?] house to be sold to the highest bidder at the usual credit and the proceeds of said sale to be equally between my five daughters to wit Sarah Hays, Polly Stephens, Leaner Jones, Ruth Saterfield & Elizabeth Baily.  It is my wish that the --- named property in the ---- house should be ----ed for the use and benefit of my wife Gemima.   Also twenty dollars that is owed [?] from Gassaway of Barren county during her life and at her death that it shall be sold and equally divided between my five daughters before named Sarah Hayes, Polly Stephens, Leaner Jones, Ruth Saterfield and Elizabeth Baily.

And it is further my wish and desire that my son Mathew Knowles be appointed my Executor.----- under my hand this 11th day of November 1824
