KNOWLES/KNOLES/NOLES FAMILY ASSOCIATION MEETING - 1996

PRINCETON, IN.

The meeting was called to order by the President, Murl Knowles.  He welcomed all to our Centennial Reunion.

 

The minutes of our 1991 meeting were ready by Secretary, Betty Knowles.  Minutes stand as read.

 

Treasurer, Carroll Knoles, gave the treasurers report for years 1991 to the present.  We have a balance of $2176.54.  The report stands as read.

 

There was no old business to handle.

 

Murl suggested we make a decision on how often we should meet.  Ora Beth suggested that we meet every three years.  Charles suggested every two years, followed by Wink’s suggestion of every five years.  Lillian stated that she has attended all meetings since 1978 and enjoyed them all and thinks we should meet every two years.  Motion was made by Russell that we meet every two years.  The motion was seconded by Wink.  Motion carried.

 

Lillian said she thinks the meetings should be held near the center of the states.  Jolene thinks the location should be one where research can be done and where there is entertainment.  David suggested the East Coast for next meeting.  Helen thinks the location should vary each time.  Jolene suggested California for next meeting.  Bob suggested Houston, Texas, Dick thinks maybe Georgia.  Jolene made motion that the 1998 meeting be held in Houston, Texas.  This was seconded by Bob.  Motion carried.

 

After we each introduced ourself, Murl introduced Knowles items such as credit cards, The Family Tree newsletter, a letter he received from a Knowles Knighted in the Bahamas and an issue of Family Puzzle.  Ora Beth stated she has two district tartans for Knowles and will have them on display tomorrow.

 

A motion was made by Ora Beth that a committee be appointed to select a date for our next meeting.  Motion seconded by Peggy.  Motion carried and the new president will appoint this committee.

 

Murl had appointed Ora Beth and Russell as a nominating committee.  Their slate of candidates, as follows, was presented by Ora Beth:  President, Jolene Abrahams; Vice President, Linda Gant; Secretary, Betty Knowles; Treasurer, Russell Knowles; and Historian, Sharon Johnson.  Bob motioned that we unanimously accept this slate of candidates for new officers.  Wink seconded the motion.  There were no nominations from the floor.  Motion was made by Bob and seconded by David that nominations cease.  Motion carried.

The outgoing and previous officers of the association were recognized for their contributions.  Joan was thanked for all her efforts.  She found the Knowleses in 1976.  The first reunion was August 12, 1978 in Sacramento, California.  The second meeting was in Cortez, Colorado, in 1983.  The Association was formed in Branson, Missouri July 25, 1983.  The 1987 and 1989 meetings were in Branson.  In 1991 we met in Estes Park, Colorado on July 2.  Lillian was treasurer until 1987 and Carroll since that time.  Claude was recognized for his years and work.  Murl was thanked for his service as President and his efforts in organizing this reunion.

 

Carroll said we had some current bills to be paid.  A motion to pay all the bills was made and seconded.  Motion carried.

 

Our new officers were asked to stand for introduction.

 

Bill Knowles of Owensville was thanked for his help in procuring the building, obtaining a caterer and various other ways he helped with this reunion.

 

Jolene discussed the publicity for this reunion.  Joan has a guest book for all to sign tomorrow.  Murl stated a copy machine will be available tomorrow for our use.  Arrangements have been made with a caterer for lunch tomorrow at 12:00.  A photographer will be here at 11:00.  Bill was unable to obtain bus transportation to the cemeteries so we will have a caravan.

 

Proclamations were read by Jolene from the Commissioners of Gibson County, Indiana, the Mayor of Princeton, Indiana, and from the President of the United States, Bill Clinton, each recognizing the Knowles/Knoles Family Association Centennial Reunion.

 

The meeting was adjourned by Murl.
