KNOWLES/KNOLES/NOLES FAMILY ASSOCIATION
Centennial Reunion
(1996) DAY 2
Princeton,
Indiana
June 22, 1996
By: Betty Knowles
The doors of the Fairgrounds Building of Gibson County
were opened before 9:00 A.M. Small groups were already assembled outside,
wasting no time in getting acquainted.
Once inside, Bob and Betty
Knowles of Houston, Texas,
had name tags made for all who pre-registered, plus sign-in sheets. Linda Knowles Gant and son, Patrick, both of Houston,
collected the money from those who had not pre-registered,
the money for our noon meal and some
new memberships.
President, Murl Knowles, of Lilburn,
Georgia, led us in the
pledge of allegiance to our American flag.
He introduced Rev. Wood who asked God’s blessing on our gathering. The new officers for the next two years were
introduced.
At this time we were directed
outdoors for pictures taken by a professional photographer.
Robert Smith from our allied
Marvel family announced that he and his wife, Muriel, have published a book
about the Marvel Family. The book
contains some information on Knowles/Knoles.
Ora Beth Higgins Cesarini of Arizona,
presented the Mar Tartan to our new President Jolene Knoles Abrahams. This tartan was found by Ora Beth and her
mother, Lillian Higgins, when doing research in Scotland.
A delicious lunch was
catered. This was arranged by Bill
Knowles of Owensville, Indiana.
Recognition was given to Stanley
Knoles, grandson Nickolas, Kenneth and Karen Knoles and grandson Blake who
drove from San Anselmo, California
– the farthest distance. Tyler Coffman,
grandson of Bill and Patty Knowles of Owensville,
Indiana was the youngest person present and
Thyra Mauck also of Owensville was rewarded for being the oldest. Twenty states were represented.
Before forming a caravan to visit
some conventional cemeteries as well as one under a tree beside the road and
another in a cornfield, we paid homage to our ancestors by singing “Back Home
Again In Indiana.”
Respectfully submitted,
