The
Association approved the establishment of a Knowles Reference
Library during
the Business Meeting at the 2002 KKNFA Reunion in Athens,
Georgia. The KKNFA Library will seek, obtain, and maintain publications,
documents, and pictures (including books, pamphlets, web
pages, letters, etc.) concerning the genealogies and family histories for any
and all Knowles families and the various allied families. The
primary focus of the the Library's holdings will be past and present
publications by Knowles (and allied lines) genealogists and family
historians. The books by Virginia Knowles Hufbauer covering the
descendants of two of the major New England Knowles families are prime examples
of the type of publications desired by the KKNFA Library. Procurement of
Knowles publications and documents will be made periodically when they and
Association funds are available. Members (and other Knowles researchers)
are hereby encouraged to make donations of Knowles reference books, genealogy
reports, family histories, and ancestor photographs to the KKNFA Library.
Whenever possible, copies of Knowles publications will be obtained via public
libraries or through the LDS Library in Salt Lake City.
The
KKNFA Historian (Robert B. Noles) has compiled a
comprehensive
listing of known Knowles books and other publications of interest to the
Association and to Knowles family researchers. The Knowles publications
listed are being used by the Historian in conjunction with basic research using
original sources (such as the U.S. Census records) to support the development of
a Knowles Genealogy Database (KD).
This Knowles Publication List which can now be accessed
through this Web site identifies the publications of interest, as well as
provides a status concerning their acquisition by both the
Director
and the KKNFA Library. In addition, this list of publications identifies
(when known) the particular Knowles family covered by the publication and
provides pertinent comments concerning the availability of the publication via
purchase, public libraries or the LDS Library. Many of
the publications on the list are currently available to the Association
through prior acquisitions. If you are aware of any Knowles
publications not on the Knowles Publication List,
please notify the
Director.
In the future, members of the Association
will be able to obtain "look-ups" from these KKNFA Library documents to determine
their need for a particular reference. In addition, information from these references
may be made available via copies or electronic transfer. Stay Tuned!
If
you have Knowles reference documents not currently listed here, please let the
Association know, so that the item can be added to the list. Anyone wishing to
donate Knowles family history reference material to the Association Library
should please contact the
Director.
The KKNFA Library is now accepting
donations for all types of Knowles documents, including family history books,
Knowles periodicals and pictures.
